Celebrating World Health Day 2018 with our Healthy Steps Team
This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the formation of the World Health Organisation yet, despite the selfless work of Health Professionals throughout the UK, BME people of all ages continue to suffer from health inequalities.
Our Healthy Steps Team are committed to ensuring that the BME community of Sunderland receive the best health support, advice and guidance possible. We know that the BME people face barriers to accessing Health Care – language, religion, cultural issues – each plays a part. But, in a fast-changing world simply knowing where to go and who to ask for help is often the biggest barrier of all.
On the 7th April 2018 we held a Health Awareness Event. The event was open to both the BME and wider community in the City.
The event started at 12.30pm on the 7th April 2018 and closed at around 3.00pm in Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre, 30 Tatham Street, Sunderland, which is close to the city centre.
There were stalls with information from the Healthy Steps team and partner organisations, tea, coffee, snacks available throughout the day, presentations, speeches, music and food at the end.
